Government Funded Healthcare Pl A National Public Health...

HEALTHCARE IN AMERICA Healthcare in America is very complex and fragmented. There is no uniform health system and a lot of people still do not have insurance. Health insurance is purchased privately or provided by the government. The United States government funds two kinds of health plans – Medicare and Medicaid both of which began in 1965 and founded for the elderly, disabled, poor and young. The private health plan provides two types of health plans – Health management organization (HMO) and Preferred provider organization (PPO). Government funded Healthcare Plan Medicare is a national public health insurance program for people aged 65 and over as well as some disabled individuals. Medicaid is a program designed for low income and disabled people. By federal law, states must provide coverage for very poor pregnant women, children, elderly and disabled. It is jointly financed by the state and federal government through taxes and administered by each state. Coverage varies because states have established different requirements for eligibility; hence people in certain states receive a more generous benefit package under Medicaid than those in other states. In 2010 Medicaid expanded to allow private health insurance companies to offer affordable health insurance to low income people who would not qualify for Medicaid but do not make enough to pay for private health insurance. This was called the Affordable care Act and intended to provide coverage for free to people with income below the federal poverty level. However some states chose not to expand so eligibility in those states are more strict whereas it’s more lenient in states that opted into the Afford able care Act. Other public systems SCHIP – State Children’s Health Program- was founded in 1997 to cover children whose families make too much money to qualify for Medicaid but too little to purchase health insurance. It is administered by the department of health and human services and has similar structure as Medicaid. A Poll Conducted By The Aspca Revealed That 94% Of Americans

A poll conducted by the ASPCA revealed that 94% of Americans believe that production animals, specifically those raised for food, deserve to live a comfortable life free of cruelty and neglect. Despite this belief, many factory farm animals are abused and neglected in such ways that, if witnessed by consumers, would not be accepted. Over 99% of the United State’s farm animals live on factory farms that use them for means of profit, many of them violating the Animal Welfare Act and other laws put in place to protect the humane treatment of animals (ASPCA). This abuse is not limited to any specific type of farm animal. Although different animals are used for different purposes, they all share a common suffering and a need for humane care.†¦show more content†¦Chickens used for egg production typically live in one of many battery cages crammed into a long windowless shed. Ten or more of these hens are packed together in a cage that is about the size of a drawer in a fi ling cabinet. This causes frustration and fighting between the hens. To keep this from happening, farmers often cut or burn part of their beaks off without medicine to dull the pain. Hens who become sick are usually not given proper veterinary care and are left to die slowly and painfully. Some of the eggs laid by the hens are hatched by another industry to supply more chickens for egg production. Since the hatched male chicks cannot lay eggs, they are often killed by grinding or suffocation. When the hens grow old and stop producing as many eggs, many farmers will deny them proper nutrition to try and â€Å"shock† their bodies into laying eggs one last time. Then they are slaughtered and their bodies are used for food scraps. Most of the pigs raised in the U.S. live on large scale factory farms where they are overcrowded and treated inhumanely. At an extremely young age, piglets are stolen from their mothers and placed in crowded, windowless pens. Due to being jampacked, the piglets do not have much range of motion and are constantly laying in their own waste material. This can cause extreme irritation so they begin biting each others tails, causing farmers to rip off their tails and teeth without a sedative to ease the pain. Most sows in the U.S.

Schoolgirl was accepted to Yale University because of her love to pizza

Schoolgirl was accepted to Yale University because of her love to pizza How to enter one of the most popular university in the world? Decent school references and excellent certificate go without saying. Although, one can draw the attention of Admission Committee. As we have seen, some students are good at it. American high school student Carolina Williams wrote an essay about her love to Papa John’s pizza and thanks to these 196 words, she unexpectedly became a spotlight. Actually, it was the first thing that came to her mind. Admission Committee of Yale University was very pleased of the teen’s composition and accepted her in college. By the way, Yale University is considered to be one of the best educational institutions. Its graduates were Hilary Clinton, Meryl Streep, and other famous people. I laughed so hard on your pizza essay. I kept thinking that you are the kind of person that I would love to be best friends with, a member of Admission Committee wrote Carolina. For admission to Yale University, a student should write an essay about the thing you really like. Carolina Williams decided to tell about her love to pizza. She orders it every week. The girl wrote in her composition, Accepting those warm cardboard boxes at my front door is second nature to me, but I will always love ordering pizza because of the way eight slices of something so ordinary are able to evoke feelings of independence, consolidation, and joy, Williams and her friends thought it might be rather nice to tell Papa Johns about this funny story. So Carolina wrote on Twitter, â€Å"I just want @PapaJohns to know that I wrote a college essay about how much I love to order their pizza and it got me into Yale†. After that, the pizza restaurant responded her and asked to send the full text of the essay. Papa Johns offered them lots of free pizzas and training in the company. She published the essay’s text and the response from Yale University in her twitter. Admission Committee said that they were roaring with laughter because of William’s essay. The girl was boasted of her extraordinary approach choosing such topic and offered her to study in the college. Williams is going to refuse this proposal because she is planning to apply for Obern University in order not to go far from her home. Also, it is worth noting that the girl performs well at school and is included in 10 best students of her school in all the subjects. Also, Carolina visits a church, works in a library as a volunteer and is a member of several non-governmental organizations. In the future, she is going to manage a business and work in economics.

Religion In Relation To Slavery essays

Religion In Relation To Slavery essays Religion is the basis for a lot of things good and bad. It is often used as a scapegoat to justify the wrong doings of some people. The verses of the Bible are often twisted to mean what people want them to mean. In fact religion is the foundation of bondage during the Slave Era in Frederick Douglass story Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, Written by Himself. In Douglass narrative he describes the brutality to which he and his fellow slaves were often subjected. He speaks of the harsh beatings they received for doing no wrong, and how the slaveholders believed it to be Gods will to commit the horrid acts that they committed. In this narrative Douglass states I assert most unhesitatingly, that the religion of the south is a mere covering for the most horrid crimes, a justifier of the most appalling barbarity, a sanctifier of the most hateful frauds, and a dark shelter under, which the darkest, foulest, grossest, and most infernal deeds of slaveholders find the strongest protection (346). There is a woman slave in Douglass narrative, which he does not name, whose back was constantly raw due to the callous whippings her master would give her simply because he felt it was his duty to do so. It is apparent that the slaveholders believed they had religious endorsement for their vindictiveness. As they would beat the slaves they would quote scriptures from the Bible to rationalize their actions. Douglass elaborates on this as well. He states I have seen him tie up a lame young woman, and whip her with a heavy cow skin upon her naked shoulders, causing the warm red blood to drip; and, in justification of the bloody deed, he would quote this passage of scripture [He that knoweth his masters will, and doeth it not, shall be beaten with many stripes] (336). Starbucks' Foreign Direct Investment Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Starbucks' Foreign Direct Investment - Case Study Example rbucks experience† in a foreign country, the company decided to consider entering into a â€Å"joint-venture† agreement with the foreign business partners. By doing so, it was easier on the part of Starbucks to transfer its business culture and practice to Japan. This was done by instructing some American employees to train the newly hired workers in Japan. By teaching the foreign workers on how Starbucks is making their coffee, the company was able to extend the Starbucks atmosphere in a foreign land. Starbucks decided to enter into a joint-venture agreement with its pre-selected foreign business partners. As a common knowledge, Starbucks is new in a foreign country. Therefore, it would be very difficult on the part of Starbucks to gain sufficient knowledge about the business licensing requirements in Japan, its existing labor policies, and the business culture in Japan among others (Morrison et al., 2008, p. 56). By taking advantage of the joint venture agreement, it will be so much easier on the part of Starbucks to learn more about the Japanese market. Likewise, joint-venture will also help the company remove barriers related to cultural and language differences (Kreitner & Cassidy, 2011, p. 96). Without losing Starbucks’ control over its foreign business partner, the joint-venture agreement will make it easier for Starbucks to establish a strong business relationship with its potential suppliers. Q.3 What are the advantages of a joint-venture entry mode for Starbucks over entering through wholly owned subsidiaries? On occasion, Starbucks has chosen a wholly owned subsidiary to control its foreign expansion (i.e. in Britain and Thailand). Why? Among the advantages of joint-venture agreement includes allowing Starbucks to share the risks of operating its business in a foreign market like the Britain and Thailand (Schermerhorn, 2010, p. 383). In case Starbucks’ target consumers in a foreign land do not patronize Starbucks’ products and services, the

Summary of Leviticus 25,26, Numbers 9, Deuteronomy 6 Assignment

Summary of Leviticus 25,26, Numbers 9, Deuteronomy 6 - Assignment Example This passage is important as it gives the significant celebrations that people ought to observe as commanded by God. The Sabbath year, for example, marks a year of rest as people should not sow or reap in that year, while the year of Jubilee depicts a time of liberty for the children of God. The Passover helps in reminding people that God saved them from the Egyptians, hence have a responsibility of obeying Him and loving Him as their only God. The passage shows that God loves His people, as he desires them to rest at various times, instead of working all the time. The Passover also depicts God’s love for humankind as he saved them from slavery. More to these, the passage shows that man belongs to God, thus must submit to his commands. Consequently, obedience leads to prosperity and long life as depicted in Deuteronomy 6:2, while disregard for the laws causes immense suffering. The passage also highlights the importance of keeping the laws and passing them on to future generations, so that all people get to live in accordance with God’s expectations. In addition, the passage relates righteousness to obeying the commands of God. Keeping all the commands equates to fearing God, and giving thanks to Him for delivering humanity from the bondage of the Egyptian oppressors. Conclusively, the passage seeks to highlight some of the important occasions we should observe in life as required by God. Prosperity follows those who obey, while the disobedient are punished for their actions.Â
